In 2021, we launched the first season of MAREA, born from a deep recognition of a gap in dance education. After years of teaching and observing the lack of community, peer support, and individualized coaching—especially outside the confines of academies—I felt the need to create a space where talented amateur dancers could be challenged to reach their full potential, and semi-professionals could receive the guidance they needed to transition into the professional world. This was something I, along with many of my classmates, had longed for during our own time in dance academies.
And so, MAREA was born. It’s a training program that combines high-level technique classes, but with an emphasis on body awareness rather than just repeating exercises. Our jazz classes focus on technique too, but also on the power of presence and performance. Plus, we dive into movement research and contemporary fusion, encouraging students to find and develop their own voice and unique movement style.
